Jackson Technology Group

IT Lunch Meet
Shop Talk for IT Pros

The next lunchtime get-together
is scheduled for Tuesday, July 17th.
Drop in at Brooksie's Barn
between 11:00 and 1:00 pm.

(email for more info...)

Everybody say it’s about time!

Our sponsor this time is Cyberoam (www.cyberoam.com) which offers a unique twist on Unified Threat Management (UTM) for internet security in the form of a gateway appliance. Dave McAlister of Marketlink will be introducing the Cyberoam to us on Tuesday.

We’ve got some interesting swag to part with too! You’ve got to be there to get it, though. Tell someone about the best (and *only*!) IT association in West TN and drag them along to get a taste first hand. You won’t find as many geeks in one room anywhere else all day long! (You know your significant other is tired of hearing you talk about work!)

Introduce yourself to someone new while you’re there…they may be someone that can help you in the ‘biz’ one day!

Here's a map to Brooksie's Barn.

(here's a nifty map of Alcatraz, in case you needed one.)

April 17th, 2007:
Dave McAlister of Marketlink Technologies
.  Dave came all the way from Franklin, TN to share some of the benefits of Zetera's "Z-SAN" network storage solutions.

March 13, 2007:
Our last Lunch Meet was sponsored by Portfolio Recovery Associates (website). PRA is considering possibilities for relocating their current software development shop and are seriously considering Jackson as the new home. This shop would employ 10 to 20 developers, primarily .NET and other Microsoft technologies, but would be a huge victory for the local community to score another substantial IT-focused business.

The Jackson Technology Group was fortunate to be one of the groups with which PRA wanted to share their ideas.  To that end, they bought lunch and described their operations and ambitions for the Jackson area.  They got to meet meet both potential job candidates and career influencers in the area and expressed their appreciation at the opportunity meet us and the overwhelming response to their interests. Their job descriptions are posted here.

If you missed it, more than 45 area IT folks filled the loft at Brooksies  to take in the grub, the garb, and the gab. We even took pictures, but the girl from whom we borrowed the digital camera hasn't ponied up the pics yet.  Anyway, here's some highlights:

  • We gave away copies of Windows Vista Ultimate, Office 2007 Professional, and other nifty hardware and software courtesy of Microsoft and Culminis

  • food was on the fine folks from Portfolio Recovery Associates (www.portfoliorecovery.com) as well as chit-chat about their ambitions for a new IT shop in town

  • a fine round of networking amongst peers during and after the Lunch Meet

  • speakers navigating the treacherous 'projector screen o' death'  (no one got stabbed, which is always a good thing)

February 20, 2007:
If you missed the last IT Lunch Meet, you missed a good one! Not only did Paul Raney of Blue Coat Systems regale us with his internet filtered wit and wisdom while Matt Y. let us know what "Pepe" the dog really thinks of home network installers. 'Twas a hoot, for sure!

December 5, 2006:::
This IT Lunch Meet was sponsored by Wala Systems (www.walasystems.com), makers/marketers of the ArcMail email management system.  Check out this piece about their Defender mail appliance: DefenderDataSheet.pdf.

November 7, 2006:
Thanks to Laura McAlister and Jimmy Blakeney from Novell for the meal and the exposure to what Novell is up to post-Netware. It was a very interesting conversation!
